From Warehouse to Costco Cart: How Gourmet Pasta Moves at Scale

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit PSS Distribution Services to film a case study video. The day I arrived, the warehouse floor was buzzing with activity. On this particular day, pallets upon pallets of pasta were being prepped and shipped out to Costco. I watched members of the PSS team carefully package individual bags of pasta into Costco’s signature six-packs, ready to hit store shelves. I was in awe of the amount of pasta being moved around the warehouse!
As I envisioned how good it would taste with some of my homemade sauce, I couldn’t help to think of what I knew Softeon was doing behind the scenes.
PSS had replaced slow, error-prone manual spreadsheets and outdated systems with Softeon’s automated WMS, enabling end-to-end lot traceability in minutes rather than hours. This transformation significantly raised inventory accuracy and lot control.
Outbound operations were also streamlined, meaning this pasta was going to get to Costco even faster than before. Voice and wave picking technologies boosted throughput and reduced training time.
Softeon’s flexibility also enabled PSS to offer a wide suite of value-added services, like custom display builds, kitting, shrink-wrapping, re-labeling, cluster packaging, and even reverse logistics, all enhancing customer ROI and enabling faster time-to-market.
Fast forward to a month later, my wife and I are at Costco, and there they were! The exact same pasta six-packs I saw being prepared at PSS. This time, instead of pallets and forklifts, I watched shoppers place them into their carts, never realizing the complex technology and coordination that made that moment possible. Now it was my turn to take home the delicious pasta and pair it with my sauce to make a meal for my family.
