In the latest episode of The WMS Pioneers, Softeon CEO Jim Hoefflin and CTO Mark Fralick discuss what makes Softeon’s One WMS philosophy unique and how it drives value for customers.
Softeon CEO, Jim Hoefflin, kicks the episode off by discussing the true advantage of Softeon’s One WMS philosophy:
“Most of these vendors have two or three products. We simply don’t. We have one and it’s beautiful. We keep that focus and don’t get distracted by multiple products or multiple WMS’, and that creates a clear differentiator for us because everything we do goes into that product and it’s available for everybody.”
Jim Hoefflin, CEO, Softeon
Mark Fralick, CTO, adds that too many companies choose a WMS based only on their current needs, without thinking about the future. Softeon’s approach avoids that trap:
“Whether you’re starting with a small number of users or running the most automated system in the world, we have one approach that scales. It’s cloud-based, with elements that can be on-prem, which is very unique for us.”
Flexibility from Simple to Complex
Historically, Softeon hasn’t focused only on simple, level-1 warehouses. Instead, the platform is designed to empower 3PLs and end-shippers alike, helping them serve all customers, large or small, on a single platform.
A key part of this is Softeon’s expedited wizard approach, which uses pre-built templates to copy configurations across facilities. This accelerates deployment, streamlines operations, and ensures scalability, whether for low-complexity sites or highly automated environments.
Real-World Example: Scaling Across Sites
During the episode, the Pioneers highlight a large apparel customer with a high-volume, highly automated level-4 facility that successfully opened a level-2 site in the UK using Softeon’s enablement tools.
Fralick explains:
“What we’ve done is create additional infrastructure to be able to copy elements of our configurations over. If you have a smaller system, you might say, ‘I’m going to do this sort of putaway or I’m only going to use these two picking techniques.’”
Mark Fralick, CTO, Softeon
“You select those, create a new warehouse for that, and start validation. That approach helps with the complications of opening new buildings or even new parts of a building that run a different business.”
This example shows how Softeon’s 3PL heritage benefits end-shippers as well. If enabling customers isn’t in your DNA, standing up a new warehouse or site is a huge challenge. For Softeon, it’s second nature, whether for 3PLs, contract sites, or traditional operations.
